Meiko Temple’s journey is an extraordinary blend of passion, creativity, and the kind of dedication that transforms a personal love into a vibrant, influential career. A self-trained home cook, she’s carved out a space for herself as a celebrated food expert, recipe developer, photographer, and stylist. But Meiko’s story is more than just her culinary achievements—it’s a reflection of how food can be a powerful means of storytelling, cultural preservation, and personal expression. Born and raised in the heart of Kansas City, Meiko’s culinary roots run deep in the rich tradition of BBQ, a food that symbolizes family, togetherness, and celebration in the Midwest. Growing up, food was always an integral part of her life—whether crafting meals for her siblings or exploring different flavors from various cultures. It wasn’t long before she realized that the kitchen was not only a place of nourishment but a sanctuary—a space where she could find solace and express herself through flavors and ingredients. As life carried her across different states, Meiko’s culinary journey expanded. In San Diego, she discovered the vibrant flavors of Latin cuisine, embracing fresh, healthy twists on classic dishes. Her time in Dallas, however, brought her full circle to the rich tapestry of Southern cuisine. The diverse culinary influences from each place became the foundation for her food philosophy—a fusion of flavors that speaks to her unique journey. In 2016, Meiko launched Meiko And The Dish, a space where she could share her passion for cooking and preserve her family’s recipes for future generations. But the blog became more than just a place to share recipes—it became an extension of Meiko’s heart and soul. Each recipe is a story, every meal a memory, and through the blog, Meiko invites others into her kitchen to experience the rich cultural heritage of soul food, Southern classics, BBQ, Cajun, Creole, Caribbean, African, and Latin dishes that have shaped her culinary perspective.


The blog is deeply personal—Meiko’s desire to preserve the flavors and stories passed down from her family was the spark that ignited Meiko And The Dish. With no documented family recipes to carry forward, she created a space to collect and share these culinary treasures with her children and future generations. Her mission is clear: to honor the legacy of her ancestors while providing a platform for others to experience the same joy and connection that comes from cooking and sharing meals.


At the heart of Meiko’s work is a commitment to creating a sense of community around food. To her, comfort food is not just about satisfying physical hunger; it’s about nurturing the soul, creating a sense of belonging, and forging connections. As a self-published cookbook author, she has earned the respect and admiration of her peers in the food industry, establishing herself as a tastemaker and influencer with a deeply engaged audience.


But Meiko’s journey doesn’t end there. With a background in marketing and creative direction, she has successfully blended her love for food with her professional skills, working with global brands like Mary Kay and Zale Jewelers. She’s served as Vice President of Marketing for the National Black MBA Association’s DFW Chapter, where she led a team to amplify the organization’s programming and connect with Fortune 500 partners. Her career in marketing has only strengthened her ability to craft compelling narratives around food, helping her create successful campaigns that resonate with audiences and drive engagement.


Through her initiative Eat The Culture, Meiko has further extended her impact by creating a platform that uplifts Black culinary creators and celebrates the diverse food stories that are too often overlooked. This project is her way of ensuring that the voices and contributions of Black chefs and food creators are seen, heard, and celebrated, fostering a community where food can bring people together in meaningful ways.


Meiko’s commitment to her craft is evident not only in her work but in her approach to life. She is driven by a desire to build connections, celebrate diversity, and uplift those around her.
